Tomb 789, P286
Ware:
Red Polished III
Shape:
large closed
Notes:
Joining and non-adjoining body and shoulder fragments from a large, thick-walled wide-bodied closed vessel, probably a jug. Possibly more than one vessel represented. Fine incised decoration with traces of white infill. Below neck-join, four parallel horizontal lines. On body, at least three groups of two two-line opposed vertical zig-zags, forming a vertical, double-framed row of plain lozenges. In between, angled vertical and horizontal framed crosshatched bands, forming reserved panels filled with two- or three-line concentric circle motifs. On lower body seven or more parallel horizontal lines overlain by a horizontal two-line zig-zag. Concentric circles broadly incised. Crosshatching achieved by overlaying widely spaced pairs of angled lines onto background hatching. Drawn. Sampled by Maria Dikomitou, 2006.
